Lieut. Colfax Campbell, of the 309th Infantry, was severely wounded in action on July 18, according to word received from the War Department yesterday by his brother, John Campbell of Poplar Avenue. 

Mrs. H. H. Bennett, a sister of the Lieutenant, said last night that a letter from him, dated Sept. 22, made no mention of being wounded.
Lieut. Campbell is a graduate of the Hackensack High School and Amherst College, and a son of the late Garret Campbell.  He was prominent in football and athletics generally, and was married just before going to France.

His cousin, Frank C. Brough, was killed in action at Chateau- Thierry.
